Common Problems with Low Carb Diets

Article by Tony Schwartz

Low carb diets are very popular for both weight loss and muscle gain. However, I often see people making some big mistakes when attempting to follow a low-carb diet. Here are the 3 biggest mistakes I have found:

1. What is a carb?It is amazing to me how many people go on “low-carb” nutrition plans, yet seemingly have no idea which foods are full of carbohydrates and which aren’t. LDL Cholesterol Levels Reduction

We hear a lot about “HDL Cholesterol Levels” and “LDL Cholesterol Levels” on TV and almost everywhere. Everyone out there seems to know it all, but you might be a little perplexed. If HDL is good, then what is LDL? Why is LDL cholesterol bad? How to reduce it?

Fundamentally, cholesterol in the blood works a lot like plaque on the teeth. Like plaque, cholesterol can increase and get hard within your arteries if you have excess of the bad kind, causing all kinds of cardiovascular problems for you. The arterial plaque behind cardiovascular problems such as Artheroschlerosis is caused by the LDL cholesterol, or bad cholesterol. LDL is an acronym for low-density lipoprotein. Just like it sounds, low density mean it is heavy and hard for your body to move around, so it tends to glue on to one place when there is too much of it. This is hazardous, as it can pave the way to arterial clots, known as thrombus, and block blood flow to the heart or brain, causing a stroke or heart attack.

So, what is so special about the eating habits of these people, and what are the health benefits of a Mediterranean diet? Interest in Mediterranean diets began when it was noticed that that people living in the Greek Islands lived longer, and had less coronary disease and cancer than people from other countries. Recent medical research now confirms and backs up these facts.
